Kick that Cold with these {Natural} Remedies

As much as I like to think I have a strong immune system as a result of doing many self care practices (harmonyum healing, yoga, eating organic, locally and with the seasons, and chiropractic care) to keep me healthy, it was inevitable that I came down with a cold last week, after many of my co-workers at the salon did,and with what the risks of working in close proximity to people all day will eventually do. The fall is also that time of year when we're transitioning from the heat to the cold that our bodies will naturally detox the build up of an imbalance, and germs and viruses start flying around!

It started with irritation in the back of my throat, then led to sniffles and sneezes, then what I call 'hot eyes', coughs and chest congestion.

At the first signs, I started upping my vitamin D and probiotics, along with a chiropractic adjustment to boost my immune system up to 400%! Then I incorporated turmeric paste and a tea remedy to drink before bed. But the real clincher, was when I stopped by my fave health spot and ordered an immune boost juice. Within 5 hours I was completely better - seriously! So, all in all, I started feeling sick last tuesday and by friday night I was a new person! Thank God it only lasted a couple days because when you get used to feeling healthy, that's all you ever want to feel!

Here are the remedies I used below:

Turmeric Paste is an ayurvedic remedy. Turmeric is an anti inflammatory, liver detoxifier and all around immune booster. Combined with black pepper, it is even more effective in absorption. Sweetened with honey (mannuka preferably), it also acts as an antibacterial, while soothing and calming the body.

--In a small bowl, place 1tsp turmeric powder, 1/4 tsp black pepper and 2tsp honey and mix together until a paste forms (not grainy). Take it by the spoonful 1-3 times per day. Or alternatively, heat it on the stovetop with 1/2C milk of your choice (I use almond milk) and drink before bed.

Another drink you can make before bed is what I like to call Garlic Tea, from the book, The Divine Doctor. Garlic helps with decongestion and strengthens the immune system. Ginger strengthens the nervous system and kicks out all the poison from the body. Basil leaves have wonderful health benefits - great for colds (used as a base of most expectorant cough syrups), fevers, sore throats and more. Boiled together in almond milk with black pepper, then drunk before bed, this tea will cure you quickly!

--1/4tsp black pepper, 1/2tsp grated ginger, 1 1/2tsp finely chopped basil leaves, 1/2 clove garlic in 1/2C milk (I use almond). Boiled together then strained and sweetened with 1/2tsp honey. Drink the liquid.

Earthly Delights Immune Boost Juice will cure you on so many levels because Tom is a ray of light!  He not only made this juice for me, but also explained the benefits of eating green apples to prevent cancer (also detoxifies the liver) and bananas for optimal health! He also alerted me to the fact that when working with hair, I am literally touching toxins because hair is where we eliminate heavy metal and chemicals from our body! Hello!!! I never thought about that! A hair analysis test can hold all the information we need regarding our health, so it makes sense that touching it all day may be a health hazard! :/

--You can make your own immune boost juice with the following ingredients: carrots, celery, parsley, garlic, echinacea and vitamin C. It tastes really good, but you might stink from the garlic for awhile, so beware! Gotta do what you gotta do though, right?!
