Happy Summer Solstice upon us! It's so nice to finally be seeing life again here on Cape Cod. As with the Vata (winter) to Kapha (spring) seasons of Ayurveda, where we naturally moved from heavy, heartier foods to lighter, more astringent foods to help us detox from the weight of winter, we now move from Kapha to Pitta (summer) season.
Smoothies are a great way to keep us cool to pacify the heat of summer/pitta. As most of you know, I drink Shaekology daily to help keep my nutrition in alignment, in an easy, efficient way. I've said it before, but I'll say it again...I can't believe how great I feel since I've incorporated it into my diet!
All the adaptogenic herbs, superfoods, probiotics and omegas have all my systems working optimally, so my immune system has been top notch, as well as my digestion and energy.
All winter long, I drank the vegan vanilla flavor and mixed in blueberries, banana, cinnamon and nutmeg (get the recipe here), but now I'm onto a couple new recipes that I just can't get enough of, and wanted to share with you.
The vegan cafe latte flavor. OMG. I don't even drink coffee, but this tastes like a coffee milkshake - so dreamy! In a blender, I place 1C almond milk, 1C ice, 1/2 banana, 1/2tsp nutmeg and one scoop of vegan cafe latte shakeology. Recipe taken from the Shakeology recipe link. Blend for about 30 seconds, and you'll be in heaven.
My next new fave is the Mango Margarita smoothie. Hello summer. 1C almond milk, the juice of one lime, 1C ice, 1 scoop vegan vanilla shakeology, 1/2C frozen mango, 1TBS hemp seeds (I used chia seeds), grated skin of lime for zest. Blend and enjoy! This one is taken from the Beachbody Blog. Next time, I might just have to add tequila! Sorry, not sorry.
